However, Letort Stream is difficult to fish and requires a high level of skill on the part of the angler. The crystal clear water and heavy beds of watercress provide the savvy trout with excellent cover to hide in, making it extremely difficult to cast your fly. The lower reaches of the stream are easier to fish as they are quicker and have some runs and riffles. The upper reaches are much more challenging and contain thicker vegetation.
Letort Spring Run Nature Trail
A popular trail, the Letort Spring Run Nature Trail is an easy, flat hike that runs alongside LeTort Spring Run. It begins at Letort Park and ends at Bonny Brook Road Bridge in South Middleton Township.
The 2-mile trail, on a 6-foot-wide crushed stone path, winds through trees and lowland marshes. It’s an accessible trail that offers an enjoyable, scenic outing for all.
Letort Spring Garden Preserve
The Letort Spring Garden Preserve, located two miles south of Carlisle on the Letort Nature Trail, is a Central PA Conservancy acquisition that preserves wetlands associated with a historic watercress farm at the headwaters of a nationally-significant limestone trout stream. It is a public park, nature preserve, community garden, and historic site that complements connected lands and trails owned by Cumberland Valley Trout Unlimited, Letort Regional Authority, Carlisle Borough, and South Middleton Township.
The Letort Spring Run is a globally-renowned trout stream, known for its clean, cool, consistent water that attracts remarkable vegetation, insects, and fish populations.
